A structured interview significantly increases the reliability and fairness of the selection process. Applicants who are told that they are being treated in the exact same manner as their competitors are less inclined to believe that they have been slighted during the process, reducing the possibility of allegations of discrimination. While structured, the interview format is not so rigid that it takes away any decision making authority of the hiring manager.
The content of the structured interview will be based on job analysis information or other forms of job documentation to ensure that the questions are job related (i.e., content valid). Detailed administration instructions and interviewing tips will be provided, along with information necessary for assessing interview results.
