To ensure that potential employees have the technical ability - be it in computer software development, supervision skills, or any area in between - to excel in a position it is imperative that they be tested using a valid predictor of job performance. A skills assessment will allow only the most qualified applicants to proceed further in the selection process, without wasting valuable manager time in the screening. Skills assessments are developed so that they can be administered by an organization's support staff. In most cases the support staff can also score the assessments and use the results to identify the most promising applicants who will be asked to interview with management.
In many cases a skills assessment may already exist that can be used for a given category of positions. While such off-the-shelf assessments may not be as targeted as an assessment developed specifically for your organization, it typically is a less expensive assessment approach.
